A bank account is an agreement with a financial institution (like HBL, UBL, or the Post Office Savings Bank) to safely store and manage your money.¹

1. Savings Account (The Growth Account)

• Purpose: To store money you plan to keep for a long time and to earn profit (interest) on it.
• Transactions: Usually has limits on the number of free withdrawals or transfers you can make each month.
• Key Feature: Your money earns a percentage return (profit) over time.² This is the best type of account for your emergency fund and long-term savings goals.

1. Current Account (The Transaction Account)

• Purpose: Designed for people who need to make frequent and large transactions (like business owners).³
• Transactions: Allows unlimited withdrawals and deposits without penalty.
• Key Feature: Does not typically pay any profit (or pays very little) on the deposited amount.⁴ It’s simply a secure place for holding money you need to use often.

💡 Which is right for me? For personal savings and building wealth, a Savings Account is almost always the right choice. For business operations, a Current Account is better. Many women in Pakistan can start with a Basic Bank Account (BBA) which is designed to be very simple and requires minimal initial deposit.⁵
